WASHINGTON – The Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C., has warned Filipino Americans about a viral video falsely claiming that the US government has announced a dual citizenship “crackdown” starting October 2025.
In an advisory, the Embassy said the US government has not implemented any policy changes regarding dual citizenship.
“This is not true,” the Embassy said in response to the video circulating on social media. “We urge the Filipino community to verify information through official government sources, avoid sharing unverified content, and report false information to the platform where it is published.”

The Embassy urged Filipino Americans to “not make legal decisions, such as renouncing your Philippine citizenship, based on social media content” and to contact the Embassy or the nearest Philippine Consulate if they have any questions about dual citizenship.
“Renunciation of Philippine citizenship is a serious, irreversible legal action,” it added.
