Olivia Rodrigo plans to return to PH next year: ‘I can’t wait to go back’

Filipino American pop star Olivia Rodrigo is planning to return to the Philippines soon – not just for a concert but to explore its tropical beauty.

In a recent interview with Elle, the “GUTS” hitmaker looked back on her first visit to the country during her GUTS World Tour stop in Manila in October 2024. The experience, she shared, was one she would never forget.

Rodrigo admitted that before the trip, she had been a little nervous about how she would be received by Filipino fans. Having never been to the Philippines and not being fluent in Tagalog, she said she “kind of had a chip on [her] shoulder” and worried about whether Filipinos would see her as one of their own. But those fears were quickly erased once she arrived.

‘I can’t wait to go back’

She recalled how deeply touched she was by the warm reception. Being welcomed with open arms, she said, meant so much to her – more than she could have imagined.

“I love the Philippines so much and I can’t wait to go back,” she shared, adding that kindness and pride she felt from her kababayans made her first trip incredibly special.

From both a creative and personal standpoint, she found it “really cool” to perform for Manila, describing the experience as one of the highlights of her career.

Now, the singer hopes to see more of the country on her next visit. “I went to Manila, but I really want to go to some of the islands next year,” she said, sharing her plans to swim in the “beautiful oceans” and visit the beaches that the Philippines is known for.

Working on her third studio album

Apart from her travel plans, the Grammy winner also revealed that she’s currently creating new music. Olivia said she’s been enjoying her time back home after touring: getting to “sink [her] teeth into new songs, new sounds, and new stories.”

Growing a bit older and more experienced, she noted that touring and performing around the world helped her learn more about herself as an artist.

“I’m taking all those lessons into the studio with me,” she said, hinting at changes in this next chapter.
