Broadway icon Lea Salonga exclaimed in full caps and excitement as DreamWorks Animation officially unveiled its upcoming animated feature “Forgotten Island.”
The announcement instantly sparked buzz across social media, because Salonga is not the only Filipino talent setting sail. Joining her on board are H.E.R., Liza Soberano and Manny Jacinto.

While DreamWorks is keeping the finer details under wraps, the film is described as a “broad party comedy adventure” that whisks audiences away to a long-forgotten, mystical island inspired by Philippine folklore.
According to reports, the story follows lifelong best friends Jo (voiced by H.E.R.) and Raissa (voiced by Soberano). The two find themselves stranded on the enchanting island of Nakali. As they navigate its wonders and mysteries, they discover that their only chance of returning home might cost them their most cherished memories and emotions.
The film is produced by Mark Swift and helmed by directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado.
Mercado, who proudly shares Filipino heritage, took to Instagram to express his excitement for the animated movie.
“It’s an honor to create alongside such extraordinary talent,” he writes. “We’ve poured our hearts into this story and we can’t wait for the world to experience it.”
The Universal-owned studio revealed that “Forgotten Island” will open in theaters worldwide on Sept. 25, 2026, marking a major milestone for Filipino representation in mainstream animation.
