‘From one dreamer to another’: Sofronio Vasquez congratulates Matty Juniosa

Filipino pride took center stage as “The Voice” champion Sofronio Vasquez extended his support to fellow Filipino artist Matty Juniosa, following the latter’s standout moment on the global stage. 

Vasquez quickly sent his congratulations to the former Idol Philippines contestant after Juniosa earned a coveted Golden Buzzer on “Britain’s Got Talent.” 

In a shared post on his Facebook account, the “Tawag ng Tanghalan” judge wrote “Congratulations, Matty Juniosa!!!!” with a star emoji.

Golden moment

A Glasgow-based Filipino performer, Juniosa recently captivated audiences with a powerful rendition of Prince’s iconic “Purple Rain” in the auditions. His performance resonated deeply with both the live audience and the show’s judges, earning him a standing ovation and ultimately prompting judge Simon Cowell to press the Golden Buzzer. 

The moment secured Juniosa a direct spot in the semi-finals.

Beyond the technical strength of his vocals, it was Juniosa’s emotional storytelling that left a lasting impression.

During his appearance on the show, he opened up about his personal struggles and lingering self-doubt following his earlier competition experience. 

Reflecting on his past on “Idol Philippines” in 2019, where he finished in the top 12, Juniosa admitted, “I have been waiting for this chance to finally put an end to this long thing that I’ve been thinking about myself, that I will always be a singing competition loser.”

After his stint on “Idol Philippines,” Juniosa continued his musical journey by forming a short-lived group called iDolls with two fellow contestants. While the group eventually disbanded, it became part of the stepping stone that led him to his breakthrough moment on the international stage.

With his career gaining momentum, Juniosa is now set to take on a new chapter as he prepares to join a West End production in London.
