Filipino American actress Liza Soberano is once again at the center of online conversations, as fans rally behind the idea of seeing her portray a Filipina superhero in the global spotlight.
The discussion has intensified alongside the release of the teaser for DreamWorks Animation’s “Forgotten Island,” where Soberano is among the voice cast.

Even before the film’s worldwide release, supporters have taken to social media to express their excitement, not just for her latest role, but for what could come next. A growing number of fans are openly campaigning for Soberano to be cast as Wave, also known as Pearl Pangan, a Filipino superhero under Marvel.
One fan posted a statement on Threads with an AI generated photo of her, writing, “THE INTERNET JUST CAST WAVE BEFORE MARVEL DID. From Forgotten Island… to Marvel’s next Filipino superhero?! Liza Soberano as WAVE looks WAY too real,” and shared a video of Soberano as Wave.
The idea is not entirely new. Conversations about Soberano as Wave had already begun circulating in 2024, particularly after her involvement in “Lisa Frankenstein.”
Online users revisited the possibility, with one Facebook post asking, “What if…Liza Soberano gets cast as Wave in the MCU. She’s now frennie with Cassie.”
The comment quickly gained traction, with several netizens expressing support for the casting.
Fan reactions have largely been positive, with many highlighting her acting growth and increasing international visibility. One comment read, “Liza is such a good actress; I’m pretty sure she will do justice to every role she takes on…”
Another user noted the challenge of fitting her into the current lineup of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, suggesting that the role of Wave could be introduced in future phases.
Others emphasized her rising status in Hollywood, saying she is “like hotcake” in demand after recent performances, with industry praise reportedly growing.
Wave is a relatively recent addition to Marvel’s roster. She first appeared in the comic series “War of the Realms: New Agents of Atlas,” created by writer Greg Pak and artist Leonil Francis Yu.
The character is a Cebuano water-based superhero tasked with protecting the Philippines, making her a meaningful representation of Filipino identity in global pop culture.
While Marvel has not made any official announcements regarding Wave’s live-action debut, the growing online movement highlights the strong desire for more Filipino representation in superhero films.
