History was made as Filipino girl group BINI took over the global stage at Coachella, becoming the first full Filipino act to perform at one of the biggest music festivals in the world.
Their debut was a full-on cultural showcase that had fans around the world proudly shouting, “Uy, Pilipins!”

1. Salakot opening with ‘Shagidi’
BINI kicked off their set with “Shagidi,” instantly making a statement in gold outfits paired with the traditional salakot, which is a wide-brimmed Filipino hat commonly used by farmers for protection against the sun and rain.
The look blended heritage with pop spectacle, setting the tone for what would be a proudly Filipino performance.

2. BINI Jhoanna’s accidental but cute Filipino moment
Even before the performance began, fans were treated to an unexpectedly adorable moment from the BINI’s leader. During the Mojave stage livestream, viewers were surprised to hear someone speaking in Filipino and it turned out to be Jhoanna casually asking about their water placement.
“Saan po yung tubig po nakapwesto, sa harap or sa side po?” she asked.
“Saan po nakapwesto ‘yong water po? sa harap or sa side? stage left? Okay. So hindi sa front po? Not in front po ‘no coach? Front na side.”
The candid exchange quickly went viral, with fans joking that these might be the first Filipino words spoken live by a Filipina performer at Coachella.

3. BINI showcases Filipino language
BINI stayed true to their roots by performing a setlist filled with Filipino tracks. From “Shagidi” and “Karera” to their latest song “Blush,” which features the Bisaya lyric “Oh kalami, oh kalami,” the group proudly showcased the Filipino language on a global stage.

4. Fans wave Philippine flags
The Mojave stage turned into a sea of Filipino pride as fans waved Philippine flags alongside BINI’s official lightsticks, the “Bloombilyas.”
The overwhelming support clearly moved the group, Jhoanna was seen mouthing “wow” during their moment, while Maloi hyped up the crowd with a shout, “Uy Pilipins! Pilipins!”
5. ‘Eyyy’ goes global
BINI Mikha brought a fun cultural exchange to the stage by teaching the audience the Filipino hand gesture “eyyy,” explaining that it can express almost any emotion. Within moments, the crowd joined in.

The support for BINI mirrored the intensity of major Filipino moments, think Manny Pacquiao fights or Miss Universe finals.
Following their performance, the group generated over one million mentions and more than four million engagements on X, with some calling them the most talked-about act of the festival.

BINI’s Coachella journey is far from over. The group is set to return for the festival’s second weekend on April 17, before heading to the Grammy Museum for the “Global Spin Live!” series on April 21.
