Founded in 2010 by Ghazi Shami, Empire has become one of the most influential independent labels and distribution companies in the music industry, having worked with artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Bebe Rexha and 50 Cent.
For Denise Julia, however, the signing represents far more than a career achievement. In a message shared online, she reflected on years of quietly building her artistry long before mainstream recognition arrived.
“All those years of writing songs in my bedroom, recording until sunrise, believing in what i heard in my heart long before the world fully listened… it all led me here!!” she wrote.
She also acknowledged the challenges that came with navigating public scrutiny and misunderstanding, admitting there were moments when outside noise could have shaken her confidence. Still, she noted that dedication to her craft ultimately allowed the music to speak louder.
One of the most powerful moments from her statement centered on representation. She said that being “one of the first and few homegrown filipina artists signed to a major US label is proof that filipino artistry deserves space on the global stage exactly as we are.”
