A new Filipino creative is making her way into one of fashion’s most iconic competition series and she’s bringing a Miss Universe crown into the workroom.
Marking another milestone in her evolving journey from pageantry to fashion design, Miss Universe 2022 R’Bonney Gabriel has officially joined the upcoming Season 22 of Project Runway.

In an Instagram post announcing her participation, Gabriel expressed how the opportunity feels deeply personal and long overdue.
She wrote, “HELLO @projectrunway SEASON 22!! From 16 years of sewing, and sooo many hours of watching Project Runway, I thought it was time to enter the workroom. Design has been my passion since I was young, and it’s a dream come true to join this season.”

The Filipino American designer joins 21 other contestants who will be tested on creativity, technical skill and resilience throughout the competition.
Known for her sustainability-driven approach to fashion, she has consistently used her platform to champion thoughtful, handmade design work.
The highly anticipated season premieres on July 9 via Disney+ and other platforms, featuring a bold new roster of 22 designers ready to compete under the mentorship and scrutiny of industry heavyweights Heidi Klum, Law Roach, Nina Garcia and Christian Siriano.
Beyond the runway spotlight, Gabriel has continued to expand her creative footprint. In 2025, she has been actively promoting her brand R’Bonney Nola Design, which showcases small-batch, handcrafted pieces shared through a dedicated Instagram platform and featured in select local fashion presentations.
She also made an appearance at New York Fashion Week, where she led the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Filipinxt Marketplace.
