SB19 makes history as 1st all-Filipino group to perform at Lollapalooza

P-pop Kings SB19 took Lollapalooza’s Allianz Stage before thousands of festivalgoers, waving the Philippine flag high as cheers erupted across Chicago’s Grant Park. 

With every song, the P-pop phenomenon carved out a place in history as the first Filipino act ever to perform at Lollapalooza, one of the world’s biggest and most influential music festivals.

Despite the scorching temperatures brought by a lingering heat wave in the Chicago area, SB19 kept the energy high during its historic Lollapalooza performance.

‘It’s hotter because of you’

At one point, member Josh Cullen commented on the weather, saying, “I didn’t expect it to be this hot,” before playfully telling the crowd, “But it’s hotter because of you,” drawing loud cheers from fans.

“I love the energy,” said Stell. “Let’s go Pinas!”

The five-piece group’s landmark appearance marks a defining moment for Original Pilipino Music as it joins an international lineup at the iconic festival.

SB19 shares the bill with Pearly Drops, Bad Nerves, Audrey Hobert and Wet Leg, while headliners and performers across the festival include global names such as Lorde, Charli XCX, Jennie, Tate McRae, The Smashing Pumpkins, John Summit and The xx.

More than another overseas performance, SB19’s Lollapalooza debut signals how far Filipino artists have come in earning recognition on the international stage.

Founded in Chicago in 1991, Lollapalooza has become one of the world’s premier music festivals, making the group’s inclusion a historic breakthrough not only for SB19 but also for the growing P-pop movement.

Sold-out watch party

As the group made history in the United States, fans thousands of miles away in the Philippines celebrated the occasion with equal enthusiasm.

Excitement surrounding the performance reached a fever pitch after all 300 slots for the “A’TIN A’TIN Lang” watch party were claimed in less than 30 minutes.

The exclusive viewing event took place at Puregold Qi Central, where lucky attendees gathered for a communal watch party alongside fellow A’TIN. 

The sold-out watch party is only one example of the widespread support surrounding the group’s Lollapalooza debut. Across social media, A’TIN have flooded timelines with countdowns, congratulatory messages and expressions of pride.
