“It’s so hard and kind of sad, especially because relationships are supposed to be something private,” Olivia Rodrigo said as she opened up about the intense public attention on her dating life and the pressure to have personal moments analyzed online.

The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter addressed ongoing speculation about her relationships in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, saying the internet often turns casual interactions into exaggerated narratives.

“Sometimes you’re out with a guy who’s not your boyfriend, and suddenly the internet’s like, ‘They’re married, blah, blah, blah,’” Rodrigo added.

Her comments came months after fans and online communities speculated about her personal life following her split from actor Louis Partridge last year and her rumored connection with Julian Croonenberghs.

Photos of Rodrigo and Croonenberghs circulating online sparked discussions about her dating choices, with some reactions placing further scrutiny on the singer.

‘Stalked and then judged’

Rodrigo said the constant attention has made ordinary experiences difficult, explaining that even a casual date can quickly become a public conversation.

“I feel like every time I go on a casual date with a guy, there’s a picture of it on the internet, which feels really invasive,” she said.

The singer also pushed back against the idea that photographs or rumors should define her character or relationships.

“It feels like you’re being stalked and then judged for pictures,” Rodrigo said. “Like I said, I’m single, I don’t have a boyfriend, and to be stalked outside of your home and then these pictures are being used as evidence that you’re a bad person, it’s just the craziest thing.”

However, the singer said there is a difference between sharing emotions through her music and having the public dissect her private life. While she recognizes the attention that comes with fame, Rodrigo said she remains confident in her identity despite online criticism.

“I know who I am, and I know what my values are,” she said, while adding that she wishes she could “experience life normally.”
