Filipino pride roars louder than ever in “PTI,” a powerhouse collaboration led by Filipino American rapper Carl Angelo.
Featuring other Fil-Am rappers Ruby Ibarra, Morobeats’ Miss A, Yamz, Talilo and David Ira, the track pays homage to both Filipino and rap culture.
The title “PTI,” short for “Putang Ina,” flips one of the most infamous Filipino curse phrases into a statement of empowerment and solidarity for Filipinos everywhere.
In an Instagram post, Carl Angelo revealed that the track’s evolution was far from ordinary. “‘PTI’ didn’t start off as the war cry for the people it is now,” he wrote, sharing how the project came together through collaboration and coincidence.

According to Carl, producers Ge Oh and Elmer Abapo initially sent him the beat, which featured a sample by Yamz. From there, the project began to grow organically. Talilo, David Ira and Miss A joined, connecting Morobeats to the mix.
Finally, Ruby Ibarra, fresh off her NPR tour, was added to complete the lineup.
He also reflected on how real-world events, from Alex Eala’s historic US Open win to Vice Ganda’s fiery protest chant, gave new meaning to the song’s message.
“We may not have started off as a war cry, but we ended it that way,” he said.
For Carl, “PTI” represents every shade of being Filipino – whether you’re “a non-Tagalog speaking, super American Filipino kid” or “a modern-day, tattooed head-to-toe tribal warrior proud of your heritage.”
“Nobody is more or less Filipino than anybody,” Carl emphasized. “Once we realize AND accept that we’re all different, we’ll realize we’re actually in unison. We all come from different backgrounds and walks of life, but one thing is for sure — ‘Putang Ina’ means something to all of us.”
