Screencap from ‘The Cure’ music video
In her latest release, “The Cure,” Olivia Rodrigo reflects on the complexity of love, revealing a “heart full of doubt.”
The second single from her upcoming album, “You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So in Love,” follows the upbeat “Drop Dead.”
While “Drop Dead” showcases the euphoria of infatuation, “The Cure” confronts the harsh realities of having to wrestle with one’s inner demons.

In a statement, her label said the music video for the track finds the singer “in the cold, sterile hallways of a handmade, cardboard hospital in a desperate search to find the antidote for a broken heart.”
The Fil-Am pop superstar described the single as the “thesis statement” of her new album, saying it “made the whole album click for me.”

She told iHeartRadio “The Cure” is her favorite song on the album.
“It’s kind of like the climax of the record. It’s just sort of about how, when you’re younger, you think falling in love with someone will fix all of your problems. And then I think when you face love in reality, you realize that that’s not the truth,” she said.
“So this is just me coming to terms with things that I wanted to be fixed about myself or things that I thought that love would solve. And lo and behold, it didn’t. So I wrote a song about it.”
‘Happy coincidence’
In an interview on the Elvis Duran and the Morning Show, Rodrigo clarified that “The Cure” shares its name with the well-known band but has no direct connection to them.
“It’s just a happy coincidence,” she remarked.
Rodrigo said the song represents a new mindset she’s ready to explore.
“It’s a new perspective that I haven’t had the maturity to express before in earlier albums,” she said.
