Filipino American pop superstar Olivia Rodrigo opened a new chapter in her music journey with the release of her latest single “The Cure,” a track she says ultimately shaped the direction of her upcoming album, “You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love.”
Dropped alongside a visually striking music video, the song quickly became more than just a comeback single for Rodrigo.
On Instagram, the Grammy-winning singer shared her excitement and gratitude over the release, writing, “THE CURE SONG AND VIDEO IS OUT NOW!!!!! this song means so much to me and I’m so so so happy that it’s out in the world!.”

But beyond the celebration, Rodrigo revealed that “The Cure” played a defining role in how the entire album came together.
“This song is the thesis statement of you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love and it made the whole album click for me. I hope you enjoy it,” she further shared.
She also revealed that the song is her favorite on the album and one of her favorite songs she has ever made thus far.

‘The Cure’ vs The Cure
The title, however, sparked immediate conversation online due to its overlap with the name of iconic British rock band The Cure. Addressing the coincidence, Rodrigo clarified during an appearance on The Elvis Duran Show that there is no connection to the band’s music or legacy.
“To be honest, the song ‘The Cure’ has nothing to do with that band. Although I really like them, it’s just a happy coincidence,” she said.
Adding an unexpected twist, the singer also revealed she has formed a friendly connection with The Cure’s frontman Robert Smith. “I love him. We talk, like every week. He’s amazing,” Rodrigo said.
